Our commercialization training program provides small businesses with live and on-demand training implemented in partnership with regional entrepreneurship support agencies and experts that will help prepare them for business launch, expansion, and capital access in prioritized sectors important to the Virginia economy.

You will earn valuable entrepreneurship complementary resources post your completion of at least 7 of the cohort training webinars. These complementary resources include:
1. Get Prepared to Launch Your Dreams -Business Launchpad workbook by Dr. Patrice Perry-Rivers. This is accompanied by a self-paced online certification portal and electronic version of the workbook.
2. Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…and Others Don’t by Jim Collins.
3. The Startup Playbook: Secrets of the Fastest-Growing Startups From Their Founding Entrepreneurs by David Kidder.
4. A printed copy of the 2024 Virginia Handbook for Success: Small Business, Startup, Entrepreneur & Innovator Opportunity Guide produced by the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC), the Virginia Small Business Financing Authority (VSBFA), and the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD).
5. Graduates of the program will also receive a Training Program Certificate of Completion marking their successful program completion.
A comprehensive 9-class series designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully start or grow your business offered by our partner, Start Up Virginia.
This online, self-paced certification program is offered for free to all enrollees. It was created by the program's founder, entrepreneurship professor and researcher Dr. Patrice Perry-Rivers, who earned her bachelors at the University of Virginia and Ph.D. in Strategic Management at Rutgers University.
The workbook and its accompanying online training platform will enable you to assess the feasibility of launching your business model. You will identify your personal objectives, assess your management skills and financial resources, describe your product/service and competition, and develop your distribution strategy, sales forecast, start-up expenses, and operating budget.
Completion of this particular certification is required for all enrollees who intend to apply for any of our grants or who plan to participate in any of the program's pitch competitions.
